What
is Shiatsu?
Shiatsu has its roots
in the ancient tradition of Chinese medicine, particularly developed
in Japan over the last century, and was then introduced to the West
in the 1970's.
Shiatsu understands
the human being as a system of energy, in Japan called Ki. The whole
basis of shiatsu is learning how to touch this Ki, whether on a
more physical, emotional or spiritual level, to free up blockages
or to nourish weak areas, so bringing about healing.
There are several
energetic systems used in shiatsu, especially the meridians
or channels through which Ki flows through inner organs and over
the surface of the body. By improving the Ki flow in this system,
physical health and psychological balance is restored.
The richness and
depth of shiatsu theory not only allows for a more symptomatic
relief of many health problems, but also to look for the source
of a problem within a person and the way they are living their life.
Through a combination of the hands on shiatsu with simple emotional
counselling and support and the giving of dietary, exercise and
life style recommendations, many clients achieve a deeper level
of healing.
