Where
Do Shiatsu Practitioners Work?
Shiatsu
practitioners work in a variety of settings. Some convert
a room in their house into a treatment room in which to see clients.
This has the convenience of not having to travel to work! You also
have the choice of whether to see clients during the day, in the
evening or at weekends.
Others may work from a Natural Health or Complementary Health Centre, or a Leisure
or Sports Centre. This has the advantage of being a neutral space
away from home, usually with reception to take bookings and payments,
as well as the stimulus of working with other complementary therapists.
With a wider recognition
of the benefits of shiatsu, more jobs are opening up with
the NHS and private health providers, such as in centres for recovery
from drug addiction, for the care of people with HIV and AIDS, and
in hospices.
Shiatsu has a strong
educational component, and many shiatsu practitioners are
attracted to teaching. They may run their own introductory shiatsu
or exercise classes, work through local Adult Education centres,
or teach more in depth in a shiatsu school. Teaching can bring a
very different contrast to just seeing individual clients.
Of course any of the above are often combined,
to give a greater variety of clients and ways of working.
